HomeCareer Education and Entrepreneurship

Partner with Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs in public secondary schools nationwide, in concert with academic objectives, to:

1) Expose young teen leaders to global career and entrepreneurship opportunities that foster vigorous industry collaborations; and

2) Help foster interconnected and culturally vibrant communities in which low‐income residents have the tools and opportunities necessary for careers that lead to economic self‐sufficiency, financial literacy, and business ownership.

Strategic Approach

  • Build upon our entrepreneurship & career readiness work and collaboration with CTE programs nationwide while also playing to our strengths as conveners.

  • Elevate our America’s Teen Mogul (ATM) Competition and Career Readiness program currently operating in the following school districts: SDUSD, LAUSD, Chicago Public Schools, New Hanover County Schools (Wilmington, NC), Charlotte Mecklenburg County Schools, New York City Schools, Dallas Independent School District, Miami-Dade County Schools, and District of Columbia Public Schools.

  • Education, economic opportunity and employment are important factors to improving access to quality of life. The job market is one of the objectives in which there is most room for improvement nationwide.

  • Specific challenges included disparities in access to high‐quality education, drop‐out rates based on income and race/ethnicity, inability to retain good teachers, low funding for education systems, and lack of emphasis on early childhood education.

  • Our community’s success or failure in educating the next generation has direct implications for economic vitality, health, crime rates, and other factors determining quality of life.

JPMorgan Chase partnered with the Nick Cannon Foundation in the Chase for Business Small Business Conferences in Dallas, New York City, Miami, and Chicago designed to provide small businesses much needed training and guidance on obtaining working capital. The Foundation identified teen entrepreneurs in each city to be Nick’s special guests for the day. Teens were able to pitch their business plans and ideas to Nick and JPMorgan Chase executives.

Key Strategies

  • Develop curriculum and syllabus for training workshops for our ATM program and foster stronger ties between public school districts and Community College Districts nationwide.

  • Focus on connecting people not only with initial jobs but with career paths in middle-skill jobs, career development, and entrepreneurship opportunities and support ways to increase essential services that support one’s ability to achieve self‐sufficiency.

  • Bring together people with a stake in career education and economic opportunity in ways that include previously marginalized voices, facilitate the search for common‐ground solutions, and activate collaborative efforts that advance this objective.
